One gets to know Stockholm by walking. We will start our itinerary by walking from the hotel to the old city, Gamla Stan, passing by Drottninggatan pedestrian road, Queen’s road. All this area is quite busy and touristic, inviting us to go shopping but we shall not give in to temptation… Throughout this course we will have the opportunity to see culture house building, Kulturhuset, the most emblematic public square in the city, Sergels torg, where demonstrations and shows take place, besides the numerous shops.
Entrance to the old city is done through Helgeandsholmen Island, where Riksdag, magnificent Swedish Parliament building, stands out. Get your photo camera ready because we will have a privileged view over City Hall (Stadshuset) and Opera house (Kungliga Operan) while crossing Riksbron Bridge.
When we arrive at Gamla Stan you will surely be impressed by the funny labyrinth of narrow roads and the Royal Palace of course. Touristic points in that area are numerous and we will have the opportunity to visit some of them. In order to relax, we will have a break at Chokladkoppen café at Stortorget pitoresque square for a traditional ‘fika’ (Swedish word for snack). You shall have the evening off, but here’s a suggestion for dinner with Viking influence in the old city: Sjätte Tunnan restaurant.
After a good night sleep, we start our second day with a short visit to Östermalms Saluhall food market. Main places to visit on this day will be picturesque Skeppsholmen and Djurgården islands and both ABBA and Vasa museums. Both islands have a mix of culture, nature and entertainment, where open air Skansen museum/zoo and Gröna Lund amusement park are two of Djurgården Island main touristic points.
Between ABBA museum karaoke and an historic visit to Vasa Swedish war ship, sunk in its first trip, we shall have a break for lunch at Blå Porten garden restaurant. A stroll by the water on Strandvägene road will lead us back to city center. Going back to the hotel to freshen up before dinner can be an option for some or enjoy a break on a Kungsträdgården garden bench. Dinner will be around Slussen area at Blå Dörren, followed by a visit to Skrapan building, Himlen Bar-Restaurant, for an astonishing night view over the city.
On the last day of our trip, we will visit one of the most emblematic Stockholm city buildings, Stockholms Stadshus, the City Hall. It’s famous for welcoming the Nobel Prize banquet and also numerous civil weddings arranged by Registrar’s Office. Then we shall have a relaxed walk around Södermalm Island, with visits to Katarina elevator and Monteliusvägen viewpoint for panoramic photos. And this is how our itinerary comes to an end. I shall leave you with some time off to enjoy the Island or maybe to buy the last souvenirs on Götgatan famous road.
